Initial Evaluation
Our dog trainer will come to your home to meet your dog and to discuss your training issues. This approximately one and one half hour assessment will help to determine what is the best way to progress in order to accomplish your goals. Then you can make the decision about how you would like to proceed.

Private Lessons
DC Metro K9 offers private lessons for those people who are dedicated to putting in the time and energy to train their pets. Some people want to be involved in the training of their dog and are willing to put in the time: with patience, consistency, and repetitions.
With DC Metro K9, you will:
-Learn to read your dog and understand its behaviors
-Learn to teach your dog how to learn.
-Learn to apply positive operant conditioning strategies to create and keep focus.
-Learn to communicate clearly and consistently with voice command and body presence and positioning.
-Learn to properly use the collar and leash for effective handling.
-Learn to use well-timed praise and reward to accelerate behavioral modification and learning.
-Learn to forestall and resolve behavioral problems with focused obedience skills.
-Learn to develop your dog's obedience skills by incrementally increasing distance, duration, and distraction.
-Learn to know when and how to apply an appropriate correction.
-Learn to train so that you have a reliable dog at home and out in public: anywhere and any time!

DC Metro K9 Camp
Some people want to have a well-behaved, well-trained dog that they can enjoy and may not have the time or the inclination to put the necessary time and effort into training. DC Metro K9 offers a training "camp" for your canine companion. Camp includes a three week program at the trainer's home and two private lessons after the camp program to teach you how to utilize and maintain all the things your dog has learned during camp. For example, dogs will learn to "sit" and "down" (no "pop up"), heel, come, walk nicely on the leash, go to "place", and will have good manners. Issues specific to your dog will also be addressed. Camp is a life changing experience for owner and dog. The number of camp dogs is limited. If you have specific dates in mind, please make reservations in advance.
Boarding is also offered to established clients.
Note on Puppy Foundation:
Behavioral problems are the number one reason that people get rid of their dogs. There are a lot of things people can do with their new puppies to ensure their puppies do not develop behavioral problems. Topics of puppy foundation include: potty training, which toys are appropriate, chewing issues, barking, play biting, jumping up, and handling exercises.
